The Rating System: While it shouldn't be taken to seriously, the rating graph is quick glance at how the product performs in a number of features or categories. The scale on the right gives a "rough" explanation of what the points represent. This has to be seen relative to the time of the review. In some cases --as my horizon broadens-- I will come back and re-rate in light of a recent review in a similar category. However, sometimes that will have to wait until the next major release or when changes are significant enough.
Also it is important to check for the version number the review is based on, especially software can frequently address problems with patches which may not be considered (yet) in any given review. Of course any rating is subjective to a certain degree as some hoopla may not stick with me while other details may get higher rated. The text body certainly will explain my point of view. Either way, it's not meant to be the only judgement.

I also frequently publish reviews on Epinions.com. While I don't have the opportunity to post pictures, tables and illustrations on that site, it's a great communtity with all the dynamics of a diverse group. The search engine and product catalog may not be the best of any given site, but overall reviews are often enough a valuable resource for most purchasing decisions.
